Who we are

Tim Gurr APFS

I began my career in financial services 24 years ago working in the pensions department of a large Insurance company. I was rather unusual as I discovered something of a knack for understanding all matters pensions related. I genuinely found it all fascinating. My department regularly received plaintive letters from pension scheme members and their advisers that couldn’t understand the inner workings of the scheme. I found writing out letters to give simple explanations on a complicated subject to be extremely rewarding, especially when I saw the peace of mind this gave. It was at this point I realised that I wanted to be an adviser and to use my knowledge and experience to help people understand their financial situation.

I have worked in professional practice in the city for 15 years and a common theme amongst clients is that they feel overwhelmed with the complexity of their finances and they need someone to help them make sense of it all.  Some clients simply do not have the time to keep on top of it. I love working with my clients and helping them to get to grips with their financial situation.

If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.

Albert Einstein

For most people, understanding their situation and options for the future is incredibly liberating and it gives me great pleasure to see my clients go onto early retirement or changing to their dream job on the back of the work we have done together.

Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.

Marie Curie

Planning for the future can involve lots of complicated decisions but the value of working with me is that I will be able to boil these down to simple choices and bring you to the point where you understand your options and feel confident in the decisions you are taking.

I am a retirement planning and pensions specialist primarily and spent many years in the city advising a wide range of clients including financial directors, NED’s and other accountancy, banking and legal professionals. I do not limit myself to working with one kind of client and I find working with my clients to be endlessly fascinating and I really enjoying hearing about your situation and plans for the future.

I have known Tim in a professional capacity for nearly twenty years.  I worked alongside Tim in a local financial services company in the early years, in an administration role.

In June 2022, I joined Tim at Goddard Perry Consulting assisting with his client administration.  Tim and I have an excellent working relationship and with the exciting new beginnings of T K Gurr Financial Planning, this will become stronger.  Working closely with Tim, with his expertise, I enjoy engaging with new and existing clients to ensure their financial needs are met with ease and an attentive approach.

Wearing multiple hats, I also work part time as Office Manager for a local family law solicitors’ practice.

Outside of work, with living in Sussex, I prefer to spend more time outdoors, especially dog walking and gardening.  I also enjoy worldwide travel.

Why a Mountain Hare?

Occasionally on my literature and communication material you may see my illustration of a mountain hare.

Aside from their beauty, hares have traditionally been seen as swift and fleet of foot. In some cultures, they are also a sign of prosperity and abundance, all assets which resonate with me and how I like to see myself as I navigate across a rock face.

Hares also chime with my other great love, running in the mountains.
