I would normally have sent a missive about the budget at this time of year but our Chancellor has decided to put this back until the end of November. Presumably she has seen the numbers and was hoping some good news will emerge to save her bacon before then.

I watched yesterday’s Spring Statement (not an emergency budget mind!) and noted there were no specific new tax rises announced but I think this will be a case of when and not if new tax rises are announced.

As is tradition, I have sat through the Chancellor’s statement and read through the subsequent budget documents, a number of points jumped out at me which impact personal finance.

We had a great trip up to North Wales and the Lake District in our new caravan last month. One of the sites we stayed on had a clairvoyant although he didn’t appreciate me asking him which bit of the caravan will break on our next trip.

Well I hope this missive finds you well. I don’t know what the weather has been doing so far this year but I hope it starts sorting itself out soon.

A short note on recent events which you may have heard of involving a run on the Silicon Valley Bank in California.

The big headline is the change to pension allowances.

There has been much negativity about of late, so I wanted to list a few things to feel positive about in this Christmas update.

Since I sent my winter update last year and my further update on the war in Ukraine, I have felt the need to send another on several occasions, but have not done so because I have struggled to think of what has really changed in the background.

As is customary, I have once again sat down to listen to the Chancellor and followed this up by scouring the Budget documents for the key announcements that will affect my clients.
